Wellness House Call Exams Where The Vet Comes To You - Dogs, Cats, Birds, Reptiles, Small Exotics
Dogs and cats - House call examination where Dr Kris checks your pet as thorough as possible. Other additional services may be done at this time: vaccinations, heartworm testing, laboratory testing (blood, urine, fecal), nail trims, routine anal gland expression, preventative deworming, heartworm and flea and tick prevention. Keeping pets up to date on vaccinations and preventatives, while keeping lean and with healthy teeth and gums can help add years to their lives. These recommendations are tailored to your pet's specific needs depending on breed, age, and life style and can be discussed at your pet's wellness visit and an estimate can be provided. I recommend well visits every 6 - 12 months depending on your pet's needs.
Exotic Pets: Birds, Reptiles (non-venomous), Amphibians, Rabbits, Rodents, Hedgehogs, Sugar gliders, ferrets - House call wellness examination where Dr Kris checks your pet as thorough as possible. Husbandry and nutrition most likely will be discussed. Wing, beak, nail trims and tooth trims may be able to be done as additional services. Many exotic pets can hide their signs as they have to act like they are okay to protect themselves from predators so we might not know until the exam if it is a well visit or a sick visit. House calls for exotic pets can be beneficial as we can evaluate the pet's husbandry right in their home environment. This can aid in determining if there are any factors that could be leading up to any medical issues and hopefully help to prevent them. Note that I am not a board certified exotic animal specialist although I have diagnosed and treated exotic species for decades.
Dogs, cats and exotics - This may be for lumps and bumps, skin issues, itching, scooting/ abnormal anal gland, ear problems, not eating, behavior issues, urinary issues, GI issues, respiratory problems, hypertension / blood pressure and more. I can review previous bw, radiographs and ultrasound results and give a second opinion although I am not a board certified radiologist. Sometimes exotic pets are sicker than we realize at the time that we notice their problem. We can also provide cold laser therapy which can be helpful for pain relief and can have some healing benefits. Exotics can hide their signs of being sick and unfortunately, even with aggressive treatment, sometimes they may not improve and not do well. Many times we don't know until we try.
Dogs and cats - Many times this is for things such as vomiting and / or diarrhea, toxic ingestion, sudden limping, bite wounds, eye problems, seizures, fox tails in ears or other places, lacerations, skin abscesses and anal gland abscesses. We can also provide cold laser therapy which can be helpful for pain relief and can have some healing benefits.
Exotics - egg bound, seizures, lethargy, inappetance, limping, constipation and more.
Dogs and cats - A quality of life exam can be done to determine how the pet is doing and to discuss keeping the pet comfortable and not in pain. With hospice visits I can help to educate families to understand more what type of terminal illness their pet may have or how to manage advanced aging in their pets lives. We can work together as a team to help decrease the pet's pain with pain meds and help to decrease their symptoms if possible. This can be helpful if the family just needs a little more time for the pet to be loved on if their pet's grave prognosis came on sudden, or if they want a family member who is not there yet to see the pet before they plan the humane euthanasia. During this time the pet can be helped to be more comfortable before crossing the rainbow bridge.
Dogs, cats and exotics - Some pets may require a recheck to ensure the pet is improving or a follow up visit for vaccine boosters. There is a reduced house call / follow up recheck fee in addition to the services being provided at that time. This is scheduled for the same problem or reason the pet was seen for initially and within 30 days.
If the exam is for a wellness / vaccination appointment and if there is time then we may be able to see more than one pet for wellness and vaccines with only an additional exam fee for the additional pet. However if the time goes over then you may be charged additional fees up to and including two house call exam fees. If the main appointment is not a wellness then there most likely will not be time for two pet visits in that time period and two paid appointment slots may need to be reserved or schedule at a later date.
*** Please note that most of the time everything requested or needed can be done at the initial house call exam and I do my best to accomplish all services. However, somethings may not be able to be done at one visit and a pet may need a follow up exam. This may depend on the pet's problem, behavior, the severity, time needed to do the service and other reasons. Also, there may be instances where I may recommend that a pet be transferred to a regular day vet, emergency vet or even referred to a specialist if needed. It is then your decision if you wish to follow those recommendations or to continue with house call services. Thank you for your understanding.
In-Home Euthanasia
Dogs, cats and exotics - Saying good-bye is one of the hardest things to do but humane euthanasia is the kindest act of love you can do for your fur baby so there's no suffering. Having an in home euthanasia service can make this time less stressful and more peaceful for the pet and family. I have to look at euthanasia as a form of treatment in a way so that the pet does not have to suffer and I am helping the pet. It is important to look at the pet's quality of life. We are here to take care of our fur babies and humane euthanasia is something they need us to help them with. Most of the time they do not pass peacefully at home as it can be long and agonizing. Many of those that have wanted that for their pet have regretted that decision later. It is less stressful and more humane to plan on a peaceful and humane euthanasia at home if possible. At the time of euthanasia they are given a sedative so they are at peace and they do not feel any pain during the euthanasia. We can focus on remembering the good times and not a long drawn out passing. If you are not sure if your pet is ready for euthanasia a quality of life exam can be done which can help aid in your decision and end of life planning options. Maybe they need a little more time on hospice or there could be something else going on that we find in the exam. With a quality of life exam, I can help provide you with information on your pet which hopefully can ease the difficult decision making process. Sometimes, I see pets who it's not their time and so then I will not euthanize them then as it has to be right in my heart. When it is time I can help your pet peacefully cross over the Rainbow Bridge together at home with your family. There are also cremation and aftercare options available that I can help you with during this difficult time.
It's one of the hardest things to do but it is the kindest act of love.
